For her Spring 2013 Bridal presentation, Vera Wang sent a collection of entirely red, scarlet, rust and aubergine down the runway. While I can’t imagine that ruffles of vermillion organza will be popping up on all that many brides, the show was quite striking and rather wonderful.
The silhouettes were kept to a select few- mermaid, trumpet and um.. princess(?)- which was a wise choice to balance the strong colors. VW’s construction and finishing are always flawless, and I love that she’s experimented with different directions of late (last season featured mostly black gowns).
The pops of black beading that crept along shoulders and waistlines I could have done without as they gave a bit of a Spanish flamenco costume look. However, overall the show was beautiful and striking. I’m sure they’ll have to set about letting brides order these in white and cream and champagne and such, but they were perfect for the runway show at least. I wonder if Vera was thinking about traditional Chinese wedding costume? -RS (Images via WWD)
